Route 66 inside a National Park?

We stayed just outside the entrance in a FREE, yes free campground with nice view and picnic table. Site provided by Gift Shop. the Shop cuts & polishes their own petrified wood and rocks into beautiful masterpieces. Next am visited Park pullout of Route 66. This is the only National Park with Route 66 running through it, it was later broken up & removed, but they kept the telephone poles to illustrate where it was. We happened upon the annual walk along 66 in the ditches area to find old things that people discarded while driving down the road. Really cool treasure hunt!!
