Canyons, OHV Park, and Mormon fruit orchards

Visited and stayed in Capital Reef NP. Just outside the park is a bunch of noting, and also a huge Off Highway Vehicle park, where you can drive atvs up huge hills, etc. Denzil wished he had an atv to try it! In the center of park in old days there was a Mormon fruit orchard, school, and farming. They made all their own clothes, food, and canning. Very isolated area, so they left in 1970s. Now orchard trees are still there, and in season, you can eat apples, peaches, plums, and almonds for free. Since fall now, fruit is gone, but pretty fall colors remain and warn temps. Next to the campground the old store sold fruit pies and cinnamon rolls, so of course we had to get a cinnamon roll the next am! before the hiking.
