So it turns out July is not an ideal month to visit New Orleans! :) ! Super hot and humid (110 F w/humidity); and all of Bourbon Street is torn up under construction.

ps if we think our jobs are hard, imagine these construction workers, underneath the city sewer, in New Orleans, LA in July! Wow.!
French Quarter has too many tourists, and beads, but lots of bands playing everywhere.

We found a campground next to city bus into New Orleans. About 45 min. ride had to keep van hooked to AC in day, otherwise was 110 degrees F !
Walked everywhere to the Garden District & Old Cemetery (old mansion housing area); French Quarter (tourist area); and to Mississippi River Ferry.

Tourist boat was $48/each or take a $2 passenger ferry of Mississippi River. So we did the ferry & used the extra money to eat some red beans & rice, then dessert of beignets and coffee. yummy food in N'awlins !

'Great River Road in US'

The Natchez Trace, is a historic forest trail aprox. 440 miles from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee, linking the Cumberland, Tennessee, and Mississippi Rivers. It was also along the route from Vicksburg Nat. Park. on way to New Orleans, so decided to stop and see it and get a sticker for Denzil's book.

Vicksburg National Military Park

President Lincoln and President Davis both fought for and agreed that Vicksburg, MS would be a major battle and determine control of the Region. Close proximity to MS River and supply routes made it essential. The Union forces won and later went on to win the battle of Richmond, VA.
