Assateague Island NP and wild horses

View Denzil & Brenda Eastern US Travels on Vanabout's travel map.

Patti took vacation & was able to take us to Assateague Island. She wanted to see the MD side, that's famous for wild horses. They were on road, & near beach. Very timid. Nice to see Assateague escaped development thanks to an old hurricane. Ocean City, MD just down road is very crowded.

Happened to be in DC during the eclipse went to visit White House, then saw the Solar Eclipse on the Great DC Mall.
Neat to see all the kids, office workers, government employees, everyone stopping their day to go outside and look at the same thing at same time.
Just as the eclipse happened, people cheered, and then big flock of birds flew near crowd.

Have seen some of the monuments on prior DC trips. But the Korean War and WW2 Monuments were new since last time.
Was very sad to see the book of names of Vietnam vets and their names on the wall. So many names...

Took the am subway into Arlington Cemetery before crowds. Was very peaceful. Also as we were at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, we got to witness the official Changing of the Guard. Very solemn ceremony. Everyone was very moved.
